The Central High Atlas is the largest mountain of Morocco. This massif shelters many unsuspected treasures, abundant rivers, gorges and lakes which nestle in the heart of the high plateau. Our summer trek, takes you across the valley of Ait Bougmez, also known as the Happy Valley, up to the Upper Valley and the famous Mgoun Gorge and to the top of the M’goum (2nd highest Moroccan summit at 4068 m). Our hike passes through beautiful Berber villages and ancestral pastures of Ait Atta. These pastures are stil used for transhumance - moving flocks to high areas of the plateaus and wild Atlas valleys during the summer months.

A warm welcome by a member of Terres et Voyages. Private transfer to your hotel with a city tour enroute. This will be dependent on your arrival time.
Private transfer to the Happy Valley. Meet your “muleteer” team and start your trek in this beautiful valley. You will walk up to reach the highlands of Mgoun Massif. A vast and secluded area of the ancient Ait Atta nomads who came from the rose valley and Saghro. They are now semi-nomadic with many choosing to stay in their villages for the education of their children. Gasp in awe at the unforgettable stark dry landscape. From this high land, you will climb the highest peak of the central Atlas, Mgoun (4068 m), a wild and little visited mountain.
After a few days of walking, you go down the high valley of Mgoun “Ouzighimt”. For a long time it has remained isolated and its culture and traditions are still alive today. You will cross many Berber villages, dotted with old collective granaries and Kasbah. See the terraced fields with carefully planted crops, see walnut trees and apple orchards which wildly flourish despite the harsh winters.
Full day walking with your feet in water. Pass the High Central Atlas over the most beautiful and most spectacular gorges of Morocco. Along your trek, you will come across nomads and travellers on their mules or donkeys or barefoot going to the weekly markets. Here they will sell their produce or buy their weekly shop. Have lunch in the shade, soak up and enjoy the freshness of this lush green valley. Continue our journey to the beautiful “south side”.
We travel slowly towards the south hiking away from the amazing High Mountain. The landscape changes and becomes drier, and wilder. A desert with an extreme colour contrast. Our arrival in the Valley of Roses, is met with a colour and fragrance that seduces our senses. Here in El Kelaa M’Gouna is where the famous Rose Festival takes place every year in May. This scent of local colour, announces our return to Marrakech.
