Morocco, a living desert.
Arid, rocky, erg or reg, sands, oases or dunes — a diverse range of landscapes.
Morocco, a land of mountains and contrasts, also has its roots in the desert.
South of the Atlas Mountains stretches, over more than 800 km from the Atlantic Ocean to the Hamada du Guir, a vast region that marks the gateway to the Sahara. Here, the desert gradually emerges: still subtle at the foot of the mountains, it fully reveals itself in the remote reaches of southern Morocco.
In Morocco, the desert remains alive, as shown by the lush Drâa Valley between Zagora and M’Hamid El Ghizlane, as well as the Jbel Saghro. To reach the Sahara, one simply has to cross the major wadis that run through it, such as the Drâa River and the Ziz River, often dry but sometimes powerful during spectacular floods.
The great Moroccan south offers an astonishing mosaic of landscapes: rocky terrain, sandy dunes, green valleys, and arid expanses follow one another in perfect harmony.
This diversity makes the Moroccan desert an ideal setting for hiking. Whether for a first discovery or for experienced travelers, with family, friends, or in groups, everyone can find an experience that suits them. This is the magic of the Moroccan desert.
