Today we begin our journey to the Happy Valley. See fertile fields growing fruit, flowers and vegetables. Cross clear water streams and experience breathtaking views of the Atlas mountains. We travel to the Mogoun Unesco Geoparc. Mogoun covers an area of more than 5700km and is the first geoparc in Morocco and Africa. Located in the middle of the Central High Atlas it is a protected site for its ecological, archeological and cultural interests. See waterfalls, gorges, dinosaurs footprints, and Kashahs with their collective granaries.
Journey up to the snowy peaks of the Atlas to reach the high plateaus of Imilchil and its two lakes, know as the Moroccoan “Romeo and Juliet”. It is said the tears of forbidden love from two young lovers of enemy tribes created two turquoise blue lakes in this beautiful landscape of rugged mountain peaks and Berber villages.
Today we descend the narrow Toudra Gorge with its high orange cliffs. We journey on through a desert plateau to reach the Dades valley, also known as the Valley of a thousand kasbahs. Here we can see the magnificent sites of the Monkeys Fingers and Ait Arbi Kasbahs. Day 6 takes you across the volcanic desert Saghro Massif with its red mudbrick villages and the green oasis of the beautiful Draa valley.
We have a leisurely day to explore Quarzazate. After passing the Anti Atlas mountains, you will visit either the beautiful Taourirte Kasbah or the Atlas movie studios. Then travel on to the UNESCO heritage site of Ait Ben Haddou Kasbahs. Centuries ago this was an important stop for camel caravans on the trans-Saharan route linking Marrakech to Africa. Our journey continues north to Telouet and the Tichka pass to reach our final stop, the vibrant city of Marrakech.
