A mule trek under the sign of the diversity of landscapes, on the south-east slope of the Central High Atlas, offering many opportunities to meet nomads and in close contact with the inhabitants of the villages, the valley of roses is one of gardens, rose gardens, oleander beds and secret earthen kasbahs.

Hiking in the Valley of Roses, between gorges, kasbahs, and villages, meeting nomads and exploring the verdant landscapes of southern Morocco.

You will be met at your arrival airport, whether in Marrakech or Ouarzazate, by your guide or a member of Terres et Voyages. Transfer and check-in at your hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.

Departure towards Ouarzazate via the famous Tizi n’Tichka pass, at 2,260 m, which connects the Haouz plain to the pre-Saharan regions to the south. After Ouarzazate, the road of a thousand kasbahs will lead us to the Skoura oasis and the Valley of Roses between the High Atlas and the Saghro massif. At Ait Youl in the Dades Gorges, we meet our muleteer team. Check-in at your guesthouse and a walk through the cultivated fields along the Dades River. 6.5 hours transfer / 2 hours walk.

Today, head north to Igherm Aqdim, a large town between the upper Mgoun Valley and the city of Kelaa. Then, you’ll descend into the beautiful gorges, your feet in the water. Along this river, a wide variety of vegetation thrives: from rose bushes to oleanders, and from poplars to fig trees. The gorges open onto the peaceful village of Aguerdzga, at the gateway to the spectacular Mgoun Gorges. Dinner and overnight camping. 6 hours of walking – Elevation gain: 270m / Elevation loss: 210m
Ascent via a mountainside path lined with juniper trees to reach a pass at 2000m. Descent into a small canyon, then following a track that leads to a second pass at 1950m. View of the Timitda desert plateau. Possibility of meeting Berber nomads living in troglodyte dwellings. After lunch, continue along the same terrain to reach the beautiful irrigated Ameskar Valley and then climb up to the perched village of Amejgag and its superb communal granaries. Dinner and overnight stay in a guesthouse. 6 hours of walking – Elevation gain: 440m / Elevation loss: 330m
You cross vast cultivated terraces in the Alemdoune alluvial basin before plunging into the magnificent Agouti Gorge at its confluence with the Assif Ait Hamd. On the other side, the mountains and verdant fields are breathtakingly beautiful. Discovering numerous villages with beautiful fortified kasbahs offers moments of pure admiration. Dinner and overnight stay at your guesthouse. 6 hours of walking – Elevation gain: 250m.
From Boutaghrar, you descend the now wider Valley of Roses, passing through traditional mud-brick villages, orchards of fig, almond, and olive trees, and fields of wheat or corn, depending on the season. This verdant valley contrasts with the surrounding multicolored mountains. Here, rose cultivation is abundant, especially if our hike coincides with the blooming season. Dinner and overnight stay in a guesthouse. 6 hours of walking – Elevation gain: 120m
Today, we bid farewell to our muleteer team and this is our final leg of the trek in this magnificent valley before returning to our vehicle with our luggage. We depart for Kellaa, the rosewater capital of Morocco. We’ll pass through Ouarzazate with its film studios before reaching the Tizi n’Tichka pass and then the red city, where we’ll arrive towards the end of the afternoon. Dinner and overnight stay at your hotel. 2 hours of walking / 6 hours of transfer.
